Rhytidectomy (daVinci Quick Recovery Facelift)  -  Quick Facts

  • The discomfort, risk, recovery and expense of the daVinci Quick Recovery Facelift is dramatically different than the older facelift of days past

  • I have done the daVinci Quick Recovery Facelift (formerly called the QuickLift)  for my nurse, Sharon .  You will have the opportunity to meet her

  • The term “quick” refers to recovery…it does not imply a limited or minimal procedure

  • You may have some softening of the lateral eye but it is not an eyelift. This is not going to elevate your upper eyelids

  • I prefer not to do a facelift and eyelid lift at the same time.

  • The daVinci Quick Recovery Facelift is a modern, modified version of the S-lift first presented by Dr. Saylan

  • Most feel their results look like they did in photos about 10 years ago

  • The procedure is done as an outpatient at the Riverside Surgery Center

  • We don’t do breast biopsy, tubal ligations or appendectomies in the office under local. I do not believe an office has high enough standards for a facelift either.

  • This is a real facelift with remarkable, natural, long lasting results.  It is not a thread lift, lunch hour lift, etc.  It generally takes 2.5 to 3 hours, start to finish in the OR

  • You are at the surgery center the full morning or afternoon

  • Wear clothing that opens up the front, slip on shoes

  • No hair color a couple of weeks before and after

  • You will take an herbal remedy called Arnica Montana before surgery, helps with swelling.  You get this from the health food store.  You start it 5-10 days before surgery so plan ahead.

  • You will generally fill the prescriptions prior to surgery

  • You will probably need some preop testing.  This is generally similar to lab work done at your annual physical.  You may need an EKG.  A copy of a normal EKG from within a year will do. These tests are usually done by your primary care physician.  They have to be sent to the surgery center no later than 3 days in advance so this takes some planning.

  • If you have cardiac issues, you will need a letter of clearance from your cardiologist

  • You need a driver the day of surgery and the day after.  No taxi.

  • Dressings are minimal after the first day

  • You can shower and shampoo the next day.  The shampoo cleansing the sutures is a good thing.  You may wear makeup on any part of the face except on the sutures.

  • Minimal chewing, talking, bending, stooping for 3 days then increase activity

  • The results look and feel very natural

  • Most patients are comfortable back in the public eye/work within 1 week or so

  • Incisions start in the temple hair and go in front of the ear in the natural crease where the ear and cheek meet, under the earlobe and behind.  In most patients, there is also an incision in the natural divot under the chin. The ones in front of the ear are usually easy to cover with just a little hair sweeping forward.  DON’T cut the back of your hair in an extremely short, tapered boy like cut or the back incision may be difficult to hide.

  • Just like any other surgical site, the minimal area where the skin is lifted from the underlying tissues (semicircle about 2.5 inches in front of the ear) will generally be numb to some extent for 3-12 months.

  • Sutures are removed from the front of the ear in a week, the back 2 weeks

  • An internal support system called “purse string sutures” help gain and maintain the correction

  • There is a barrage of “look a like” procedures.  Do your homework carefully.  This may be one of the most important decisions you ever make

  • Call 800 635 0635 to check the credentials of any surgeon you are considering.  When making comparisons, be sure to ask what the fees include

  • You will meet with me personally at the fist consultation

  • They may be lifted and softened but this procedure is not designed to completely eliminate the nasolabial line

  • Lipstick lines (perioral wrinkles) and crow’s feet may be softened but they will not be eliminated.  We have other procedures that may help.

  • Risk to the facial nerve is dramatically reduced with this facelift approach

  • Patients who have had a facelift in the past can have the daVinci Quick Recovery Facelift (they can’t believe how simple it is in comparison)

  • The skin in your chest may even look much smoother

  • Skin reflectivity is enhanced when the skin is taunt so faces have a healthy, glowing look

  • Many eliminate foundation makeup after this procedure

  • If you have sun damage your results may be further enhanced by additional nonsurgical treatments

  • Our facelift patients get additional benefits on other services to promote skin health and maintain results.

  • Good, therapeutic skin care is important in maintaining your results

  • For the most part, you will be given the dressings you need

  • You will need to buy a fresh box of Q-tips, KY jelly, peroxide

  • Almost everyone gets some bruising in the jaw, neck.  Typically looks like you’ve had a wisdom tooth remove.  If you think you might want cover up makeup for a bruise, get it ahead of time instead of trying to get a match afterwards.  Green and yellow cover up sticks patted on with a makeup sponge 5 minutes before patting on regular makeup works well.

  • Payment plans are available.  If you can afford a cruise, boat, motorcycle, diamond or to redecorate and furnish your living room, you can afford this surgery

  • MasterCard, Visa and Discover are accepted.  If you want to pay the anesthesiologist by credit card it must be done a few days before surgery.  You may apply for payment plans through www.Carecredit.com.

  • Surgery center and anesthesiologist fees are separate from mine.  They are quoted based on a time estimate.  Your bill will be based on the actual time used so there could be a variable.

  • Complications are very infrequent and usually not serious

  • Before and after photos are a part of the planning tools.  No photos.  No surgery

  • Your photos will never be shown unless you give permission

  • Any return to the operating room always means additional expense.
